Commuter Programs

OmniRide has established partnerships with other regional transportation organizations. Our collective goal is to improve the regional quality of life through reduced pollution and congestion. As an added benefit, this makes OmniRide passengers eligible to participate in several special commuter programs.

SmartBenefits® is a tax free or pre-tax benefit, of up to $255 per month that companies and Federal agencies can provide to their employees. Using a convenient web-based program, employers assign the dollar value of an employee's monthly SmartBenefit directly to the employee's SmarTrip card. The benefit is also accepted in participating vanpools. The SmartBenefits program is administered through the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA or Metro). For more information visit Metro's SmartBenefits page or call Metro at (202) 962-1326.

Guaranteed Ride Home

The Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program provides commuters who regularly take transit, vanpool, carpool, bike, or walk to work with a reliable ride home when one of life's unexpected emergencies arise. Registered commuters will be able to use GRH for unexpected personal emergencies and unscheduled overtime up to four times per year. The ride home by cab, rental car bus or train is FREE.

This program is administered through Commuter Connections, a regional network of transportation organizations. For details or to register call (800) 745-7433 or visit

Regional Transfer Program

Transferring between OmniRide or Metro Direct buses and other regional bus systems is easy with a SmarTrip card. The electronic farebox will calculate and automatically deduct the correct fare from your SmarTrip card. Transfers must be made within 3 hours of boarding to receive credit. No transfer credit is given when transferring between OmniRide or Metro Direct buses and Metrorrail.

Passengers paying cash and transferring to or from other regional bus systems WILL NOT receive a transfer discount and must pay the applicable fare for each portionof their trip. In order to receive a transfer discount on these services, riders must pay with SmarTrip cards.

Employer Services

Employer Services provides FREE consultations and assistance to employers seeking to implement a company transportation program that offers alternatives to driving alone. Companies can realize "bottom line" benefits while improving employee morale and loyalty. This service is available to any employer within PRTC's service area.
