Good News for Seniors! PRTC is now selling Senior SmarTrip cards, a rechargeable transit fare card specially designed for those 65 and older.
SmarTrip is convenient because you don't need to worry about having exact change or a token for your bus fare. And you can use your SmarTrip card for travel on many other public transportation providers in Northern Virginia, the District of Columbia and Maryland including Metrorail, Metrobus, the DC Circulator, Fairfax Connector and DASH in Alexandria.
When boarding any PRTC bus, simply tap your Senior SmarTrip card to the target on the bus's electronic farebox. Your fare is automatically deducted and you will receive any senior discounts that apply.
The Senior SmarTrip card costs $5.00 and can hold up to $300 in value. You may purchase the card and load value at the PRTC Transit Center between the hours of 7:00am and 7:00pm, Monday through Friday. JUST REMEMBER TO BRING PROOF OF YOUR AGE! While you're there, the lobby receptionist will help you to register your card so you'll be protected incase the card is ever lost or stolen.
If you are 65 years or older, you may purchase a Senior SmarTrip card and start using it right away!
If you are between 60 and 64 years old, you MUST pay PRTC bus fares in cash in order to continue receiving the discounted fare.
For additional information, please contact PRTC's Customer Service office at Omni at OmniRide.com or call (703) 730-6664 between the hours of 5:30am and 8:30pm, Monday through Friday.
